William Cavendish-Bentinck (1738, Oxford - 1809), 3rd Duke of Portland cement, great-grandson of Hans Willem Bentinck was English Prime Minister of 1807 with 1809.
It had as a mother the heiress of the Cavendish. Named Even of England in 1762, it was initially in the opposition, then it accepted various important loads, was governor of the Ireland, and became in 1783 first Lord of the treasury and chief of the ministry known as of the coalition ; but it was reversed the same year and returned in the opposition. It approached the ministry in 1792, then accepted the titles of chancellor of the Université of Oxford, Secretary of State of the Interior, and became in 1801 president of the council, after the retirement of William Pitt the Young person. It gave its resignation in 1805.
When the supporters of Pitt returned to the capacity in March 1807, Portland was still a figurehead acceptable for a group of ministers which included George Canning, Lord Castlereagh, Lord Hawkesbury.
At the end of 1809, whereas the Portland cement health was degraded, the ministry was struck by the scandalous duel between Canning and Castlereagh. Portland cement resigned and died little of time afterwards. It is one of those to which one made the honor of the Lettres of Junius.
