William Birkin
William Birkin is a character of the series Resident Evil created by Capcom.
Originator of the virus G, in collaboration with his wife Annette Birkin, it is made fly of the samples of the virus G by the force special of the UBCS of which Hunk Death. Seriously wounded by their balls, it inoccule its virus which, injected in living tissue, modifies its appearance and William is become one of the boss of Resident Evil 2, transferring several times. It kills while passing the agents of Umbrella come to steal its invention to him. Raccoon City is then contaminated by the rats transporting the virus which they contracted at the time of the tasting of the corpses of the forces of Umbrella. This is the beginning of the nightmare of Raccoon City.
Backdrop
Birkin joined Umbrella Corporation in 1977 at the 15 years age. It was placed under the cane of James Marcus. At this time there, it becomes close and rival of the researcher Albert Wesker who regarded himself as the best apprentice of Marcus. They were implied in the development of the project virus T until the closing of the complex in 1978.After that, him and Wesker were transferred to the Arklay Research center on July 31st, 1978 and continued their work on the virus T as chiefs of the project of the complex. Birkin was proud to be the youngest researcher with being employed by Umbrella until the arrival of Alexia Ashford project manager of the Antarctic Complex in 1981. Although its method differed, Birkin became jealous of it, especially concerning the praises which it received from her colleagues. It became completely absorbed by its research task until the death of Alexia in 1983. In spite of its competition with it, its experiments did not lead to nothing until creation Hunter Bio Organic Weapon (BOW) around the middle the years 1980.
It was " promu" in 1988, project manager of the development of the virus T (and progress of Tyrant completed) after him and Wesker assassinated their Marcus mentor. At the same time, Birkin was already married with its Annette assistant and of the marriage, a named girl Sherry (born in 1986). When him and Wesker led an experiment with the -parasite (the prototype of the Nemesis project), they used LISA Trevor as guinea-pig. LISA was the only subject to entirely integrate the parasite. Constant strange sound survival, Birkin examined the structure of the body and discovered the variations of the virus " Progénitor" who were injected in LISA in 1967, had been established for a long time and had transferred in a new virus: the virus G. In 1993, Birkin and his wife was transferred in the underground Complex of Research conceived especially for the project.
It completed the development of the virus G in September 1998 because it had envisaged the final stage with an aim of being promoted by the direction of Umbrella. However, it was scrambled with its owners and planned to keep the fruit of its research for him and to sell it at the US government. Umbrella then decided to recover its research. The rapid deployment force which was sent never did not reappear and the Alpha special forces of Umbrella (carried out by Hunk under the orders of Christine Henri and Spencer) were dispatched to steal the work of Birkin. This last seriously was wounded by the soldiers and was left for death. Refusing to see its work escaping, it injected on itself the virus G and was transformed into a known fatal mutant creature under the name of " G".
The transformation of G
After its transformation into G, Birkin pursued the USFU which had stolen its samples to him, and this until in the sewers. The section was taken in ambush and did not have a plan to control the monster. During the attack which of followed by many flasks being contained the virus T were broken and absorbed by the rats which propagated the infection in Raccoon City. On the few members of section USFU that Birkin fought only Hunk survived.Several days later, the Birkin on September 29th ground with the accesses of the RPD (Raccoon Police Department). He knew five different phases. At the time of the first, Birkin preserves part of its human appearance at the only notorious exception of its enormous right-hand man (with an eye on the shoulder) and a disturbed spirit which pushes it to follow its bad instincts. At the time of the second phase, it pushes another head to him (the first being based in the chest) and has claws with the right hand. After its third transformation, any resemblance to an human being from now on is excluded, with the remainder of its mutant body ansi that its arms. In this form, it pushes two additional arms to him: its old arms forming part of its back, a little like the wings of a demon. After having undergone sufficient damage during its engagements against Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, it changes again and it pushes a new mouth in the chest to him. It starts to go to four legs. This form taken per G requires a constant approvisionnemnet in food and that leads to the fifth and last phase which makes it resemble a heap formless flesh equipped with tentacles. The mutant G degenerates thus during these five successive phases. During all these phases, he pursued Leon and Claire in the sewers to the underground research center and thus escaped from the train which drove Leon and Claire. Its presence in the train caused the activation of the mechanism of the Anti-Biohazard detonator. Leon, Claire and Sherries endeavoured to stop the train and to escape whereas Birkin was inside. The train was destroyed, carrying Birkin in the explosion. Some time after they had left the site, Wesker (working now for the Organization) endeavoured to recover what remained mutant G.
Remarks about the character.
William Birkin is the prototype even of the insane scientist in the Victor Frankenstein of which abounds the literature, the cinema and the video games. The comparison is all the more exact as in the novel of Mary Shelley, the scientist manufactures a mutant creature with pieces of human corpses and animates it thanks to electricity. The mutant G also seems with its way made up of pieces of died flesh, kind of hybrid mosaic left the worst nightmares. In Evil Resident, it is science in its darkest slope which ends in the most dreadful genetic mutations. One touches here with a philosophical question: " science without conscience is only ruin of the âme".
