William Beebe

Charles William (" Will") Beebe (July 29th 1877 - June 4th 1962) was a Naturaliste, an exploring and a American author. He is regarded as the inventor of the Bathysphère.

Born with Brooklyn, New York, he was the conservative of the department of Ornithologie for the zoological company of New York of 1899 with 1952. In 1919, he became also director of the department of tropical research. He was moreover a regular collaborator of the National Geographic Magazine and an author of documentary books with success, his royalties helping it to finance his forwardings.

Its interest for the exploration of sea-beds led it to work with the invention of the Bathysphère in company of Otis Barton. In 1930, it went down to 183 m to broad from Nonsuch Island (Bermuda). In 1934, it establishes a record of descent to 923 Mr. Beebe on the whole carried out 35 divings in the bathysphere.
