Willerwald is a common French located in the department of the the Moselle and the basin of life of the Moselle-is.
Its inhabitants is Willerwaldois.
In spite of its name, the commune does not have a forest. Three brooks cross the commune: the Hoppbach, the Waldscheingraben and the Dorrenbach. The commune is also crossed by the Canal of the collieries of the Saar and the the Saar.
A first church, dedicated to St Nicolas, was built in 1777. A new church of Gothic style, with a bell-tower of 60 m was built in the 1910-11, devoted solemnly on May 15th, 1911. Damaged by acts of war on June 6th, 1940, it was completely demolished during the occupation.
During the Second world war, the village was evacuated on September 1st, 1939 in the department of Charente (with Room-with Angles, then with Châteaubernard and Saint-Felix). The village was bombarded on June 14th, 1940 and was occupied by the German troops on June 15th, 1940. Also bombarded on December 4th, 1944, 47 houses were completely destroyed and the others strongly damaged. It was released by the American army on December 5th, 1944.
