Willem de Sitter (May 6th, 1872 - November 20th, 1934) was a mathematician, physicist and astronomer Dutch. It was born in the town of Sneek with the Netherlands.
Biography
Willem de Sitter studied the Mathématiques with the Université of Groningue then integrated the laboratory of astronomy of Groningue. He worked at the observatory of the Cape in
South Africa (
1897 -
1899) then, in
1908, of Sitter was named with the pulpit of astronomy of the Université of Leyde. He was director of the Observatoire of Leyde of
1919 until his death.
Work
De Sitter contributed to improve comprehension of Cosmology. One of its important works is the Co-drafting of an article with
Albert Einstein in
1932, in which they conjoncturaient that it was to have in the universe a great quantity of matter which did not emit a light, currently indicated like the Matière sinks.
De Sitter was also famous for its work on the planet Jupiter (planet).
