Willamette

The river Willamette is a river of the Oregon (the United States) which takes its source in the center of the Oregon and runs towards north to its confluence with the river Columbia close to the town of Portland. It forms a valley, the Vallée of Willamette, between the coastal Chaînes and the Chaîne of the Cascades where the majority of the population of Oregon concentrates. Since the beginning of the colonization of Oregon the river was always used as major transportation route to transport the mining and agricultural products of the center of the State towards Portland and the Pacific Ocean.

Geography

The multiple sources of the Willamette river are in the south and the south-east of Eugene which combine a little upstream Eugene to form the Willamette river. The river continues its race towards north and crosses Corvallis, Albany, and passes to the west of Salem. It reaches hills with Newberg which modifies its course direction east-north-east and passes these hills to Oregon City with the Chutes Willamette ( Willamette Falls ). From there, the river is navigable to the confluence and passes by Lake Oswego, Milwaukie, and Portland.
