Will-o\'-the-wisp
The will-o'-the-wisp is a gleam pale and diffuse which can sometimes be seen around the Marais and in the Cimetière S. It disappears when it is approached, and is traditionally held to be a malignant spirit or another supernatural creature. Scientifically, it is thought that the will-o'-the-wisps are a phenomenon resulting from the oxidation of PH3 (Phosphine) and Méthane coming from the organic matter decomposition and who ignites easily close to torches.
These phenomena correspond to erratic gleams, sometimes yellow, other blue or red times, which fly in the air with little distance from the ground. A will-o'-the-wisp generally has the aspect of a wavering flame finished by an irregular brush which vaguely points out the crown of a grenade. It is shown preferably in autumn by a time calms the night.
