Wilibald Swibert Joseph Gottlieb von Besser

Wilibald (or Wilhelm or Willibald ) Swibert Joseph Gottlieb von Besser is a Austrian Botaniste , born the July 7th 1784 with Innsbruck and dead the October 11th 1842.

He studies the Médecine and the Botanique in Austria and obtains his title of doctor in 1799 with Kremenets (Volhynie, Ukraine). During its stay with Kremenec, it is devoted to its passion, botany, and constitutes an important collection. This one enables him to make appear in 1809 Primitiae Florae Galiciae Austriacae Utrisque . In 1808, he becomes professor of botany at the university of Kremenec and conservative of its botanical garden. The university of this city, located a few kilometres from Kiev, had been created with an aim of relieving congestion the university of Kiev. Besser enriches considerably the garden by the university by planting a Arboretum and by creating several greenhouses. With other botanists, it gathers vast a Herbier of more than 60.000 specimens, as well of Ukraine as of Western Europe, the Caucasus, of Siberia, India, Africa, Australia and America.
