Wilhelm Schickard

Wilhelm Schickard (born the April 22nd 1592 with Herrenberg, died of the bubonic plague the October 23rd 1635 with Tübingen) is Pasteur and university Souabe which designed the first Calculating machine.

In 1623, Wilhelm Schickard invented for Kepler what it called a “calculating clock” which was intended to calculate the éphémérides. It used toothed wheels and had already tackled the problem of the carryforward of reserve.

Following the devastations of the Thirty Year old War in Germany, this machine in the current from the year 1624 disappeared.

It should be noted that it was rebuilt in 1960 according to the original plans.
