Olof Wilhelm Peterson-Shepherd is a Compositeur and Journaliste Swedish, born the February 27th 1867 with Ullånger (in Ångermanland) and dead the December 3rd 1942 with Östersund
Biography
From 1888 to 1990, he studies the organ and the composition with the royal Academy of music of Stockholm before improving with Dresden. He composes his first oeuves then turns to musical criticism for the Swedish daily newspaper " Dagens Nyheter" practically without interruption of 1896 to 1930. Readily provocative, it is respected and dreaded by the whole of the profession even if quickly its preserving musical designs make it be opposed to its young Scandinavian contemporaries Jean Sibélius, Carl Nielsen, Wilhelm Stenhammar or Hugo Alfven.Influenced by August Söderman, Edvard Grieg and especially Richard Wagner which he admires, he translates number of the texts of this last, in particular that of the opera Tristan and Isolde. He also puts many poems of Friedrich Nietzsche in music.
In 1921, it is received member of the royal Academy of music of Sweden. In 1927, he works with the royal Opéra of Stockholm before settling on the island of Frösö (Jämtland) in 1930.
In 1936, he undertakes a round in Norway then with the the United States.
In addition to its symphonic works and operas, it composed more than 80 popular songs based in particular on poems of Erik Axel Karlfeldt, of which Aspåkerspolska .
