Wilhelm Gustloff

Varron ( Marcus Terentius Varro ), writer and erudite Roman of equestrian row, born with Reate (auj. Rieti) in 116 and died in 27 av. J. - C.

Life

Initially lieutenant in the Roman civil wars and in favor of Pumped against Jules César in 49 av. J. - C., it arrived at the row of Préteur. Having obtained the forgiveness of César, it joins with him and becomes responsible for the organization of the first public Bibliothèque S of Rome. After the death of César, Octavien must repurchase it since Marc Antoine had declared it outlaw. He then gives up completely the military career to devote himself to the knowledge and the writing.

He is the author of almost 600 volumes, but only around fifty reached us.

the Re rustica' libri III : rural Économie is a treaty of agriculture in three volumes, of which we preserved totality; They are 3 books addressed to his Fundania wife: the art of the farmer, herds, rural economy.

Of lingua latina in 25 pounds: the Latin language was a long time a reference for the Latin grammairiens and we preserved the quarter of it;

the Satires Ménippées : satirical poems, whose only some fragments reached us;

the Epistulae (Letters) and the Epistolicae quaestiones (epistolary Questions) Bipont, ED. Wolf are known only in fragments.

Saturarum Menippearum libri CL , Satire S imitated of the cynical Philosopher Ménippe de Sinope, in 150 pounds

Antiquatatum rerum humanarum and divinarum libri XLI (or Antiquitates rerum humanarum and divinarum , “Of the human and divine things ancient” , in 41 pounds): certain parts of the Antiquités were used as reference to the fathers of the Christian Church as regards pagan Roman religion.
