Wijayananda Dahanayake

Wijayananda Dahanayake (October 22nd 1902 - May 4th 1997) was Prime Minister for the Sri Lanka between 1959 and 1960.

He became Prime Minister of his country after the assassination of S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, chief of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) in place since 1959. Its six months mandate ended at the time of the general elections which followed in March 1960 and which will be gained by the Plain National Party. Dahanayake was member of the left wing of Lanka Sama Samaja Party before joining the SLFP. During its political career, he was also Minister for Education, the Interior matters and Agriculture.
