Wihr-with-Valley
Wihr-with-Valley is a common French, located in the department of the Haut-Rhin and the area Alsace. Its toponymic German name, used before 1918, is Weier im Thal . It is a viticultural small village belonging to the valley of Munster.
Its inhabitants is called the Wihriens .
Geography
Small village which prolongs the Wine trail of Alsace, Wihr-with-Valley is crossed by the Fecht and is located at 7 km of Munster and at 13 km of Colmar. The communes bordering are Gunsbach, Walbach and Soultzbach-the-Baths.
History
The first known origin of the name goes back to a document of 896 under the name of “Bonifacii Villare”, i.e. the villa of Bonifacius, duke frankly of Alsace. According to this document, Bonifacius towards 660 had been made set up a hunting lodge where it remained when it came to drive out; its memory survives to him in the name of the bearing village from now on its name. Thereafter Villare became “Wihr”, always followed “in the valley of Gregoire Saint”, then Wihr-with-Valley.At the origin the territory belonged to the Abbaye of Munster, then with the bishop of Basle which it inféoda in Rappoltstein. Those Ci reflect in place a fortification which was set fire to by their enemies, Girsberg in 1279. Rappoltstein managed to take again the village in 1293 and rebuilt the castle in 1303. Of 1346 with 1440 those are obliged to yield Wihr to Hattstatt then recovered it and preserved it until their extinction.
The June 18th 1940 during the Second world war, the village was completely destroyed by the incendiary bombs of the German artillery which fought against French positioned on the mounts with the top of the village. During its rebuilding which will take place only after the war, the inhabitants were placed in hutments. The village was released by American on February 4th, 1945, last German having left the borough the day before.

Blasonnement : of money to the two keys of wheel of carriage leant of sand.Son Blason represents two keys of wheels, which evoke its position close to trade route.
Demography
The enumeration carried out at the time of the census of INSEE in January and February 2005 counted 1.177 inhabitants (municipal population), 465 main homes and 53 second home or vacant. Next the Recensement will take place in 2010.
