Wigwam

A wigwam is a type of dwelling built by the Amerindian seminomad of North America of which the Micmacs.

Design

The dwellings are plans circular or lengthened and can shelter from 10 to 20 people. The structure makes up of a frame of pole on which the covering of birch barks is fixed, or of plaits of Quenouille or Jonc S. the parts of bark are bent together using roots of virginal or fir tree. The ground is covered with branches of fir tree or virginal in order to it make and insulator comfortable. The wigwans are generally decorated with reasons representing of the birds, the mooses, the beavers, the otters, etc The winter, it is covered with skin of animals. A fire is maintained permanently in the center, smoke escapes by a hole of chimney.

Transport

The woman is responsible to assemble and dismount the wigwan. The poles are not transported and remain on the spot. The bark is transported rolled up on the branch on which it is attached.
