Geology
The major part of Wienerwald belongs to the zone of the
Flysch S (mainly of the
sandstone) while south-east is composed of Calcaire.
Climate
The climate of Wienerwald is primarily determined by a oceanic influence. With the foot of the mountains (
Thermenlinie ) dominates a hot climate, whereas the mountainous areas know a alpine climate. The north of the area forms a natural climatic barrier. Thus, the clouds of rain coming from the west are stopped, generating the formation of Brouillard. On the highway
Wiener Außenringautobahn , culminating to 553 m of altitude, one often meets bad circulation terms because of the Neige, the Verglas or the fog.
Flora
In the septentrional part, corresponding to the zone of the flyschs, Wienerwald presents 77% of species to gasolines Feuillu S (Hêtre, Chêne and common Charme), while in calcareous south-east, 46% of surface east covered by Conifère S (pine,
spruce, black Pin, Sapin and Mélèze). On the Eastern slopes of the solid mass, the Vigne is cultivated. A long time, Wienerwald was a forest of round of applause and a princely hunting preserve. In the years
1870 -
1872, Josef Schöffel saved the forests of the deforestation. Today, Wienerwald is protected by laws and the half of the communes of the area Viennese is wooded.
