White stilt

The white Échasse ( Himantopus himantopus ) is a bird wader.

Description

Its long pink legs allow the white Stilt deep water patauger, while collecting its food on the surface.

Food

Insects taken on the mud, the vegetation or water.

Habitat

Ponds bordered of reeds, flooded fields, rice plantations, saltworks, lagoons and, less often, estuaries.

Reproduction

Hollow in the mud or sand, often on not very deep water small islands, furnished with grass or sheets. 3 to 4 eggs in a laying from April at June.
