White Substance
The white Substance is with the gray Substance one of the two categories of fabrics of the Nervous system. It forms the internal part of the Cerveau and the surface part of the Spinal-cord.
The white substance is made up of nervous fibers, the Axone S and the dendrite S, which connect various parts of the brain and transmit the nervous impulses of and towards the Neuron S.
Generally, the white substance can be regarded as the part of the brain responsible for the transmission for information, whereas the gray substance is responsible for the data processing (because it is made up of the cellular bodies of the neurons).
In the brain, one finds various structures of white substance:
- internal capsules
- external capsules
- extreme capsules
- the optical Chiasma
- the oval Center of Vieussens
- former commissure
- posterior commissure
- the callous Body or mésolobe
- the trigonal ones or Fornix
