La' sea Blanche' extends on 95000 km ² in the North-West from the Russia, in the south of the Mer of Barents; it constitutes a dependence of the Arctic Ocean.
The summer lasts there of at the beginning of June at the end of August. But in the northern part of the sea, it does not exceed a month and half.
Its temperature evolves/moves of 0,5°C with -2°C the winter and 12°C with 15°C the summer.
The ices appear as of October and form fields of ice as from mid-November. The animals of the polar regions then come to take refuge there: the Seal of the Greenland, the Dogfish and the marine Calf.
The snow melt begins in April and the ices disappear in May. But, because of the winds of north, one can meet floating “ice floes until the end of June”.
In spring, under the action of the winds of the south and the currents, of the animals are carried on their piece of ice towards the Ocean. They are then cut down by the inhabitants of the coast who move in boats with shoes.
The important port of Arkhangelsk is on the sea Blanche. During a good part of the history of Russia, it was the principal center of maritime international business. At the time modern, this port became a naval and underwater base Soviet.
