White Eugene
White Eugene , born with Lugny on January 27th, 1876, is a politician of Saône-et-Loire which, in the Twenties and Thirties, played a leading role at the sides of Henri Boulay in the creation and the development of the viticultural co-operative movement in Mâconnais.
Mayor S.F.I.O (socialist) of Lugny as from June 1910, Eugene Blanc was regularly re-elected with the head of this commune (in May 1912 then in December 1919, May 1925, May 1929 and May 1934). He was moreover general adviser of the Canton of Lugny of 1910 to 1940.
From 1927, year when in service the cooperative wine cave of Lugny entered - second cooperative wine cave created in Mâconnais after that of Saint-Gengoux-with-Scissé -, it occupied the president's functions of the viticultural Cooperative society of Lugny. In 1927 always, Eugene Blanc was selected to chair the Federation of the cooperative wine caves of Saône-et-Loire, structure created this same year to defend the interests of the cooperative wine caves founded in Mâconnais, Chalonnais and Beaujolais. He occupied these two presidencies during many years.
Eugene Blanc died with Lugny on January 29th, 1964. He rests with the cemetery of Lugny.
Eugene Blanc had been made knight of the Légion of honor.
