White Elster

The Elster White , in German Weiße Elster , in Czech Bílý Halštrov , is a river of Central Europe, long 257 km.

It takes its source in Tchéquie, close to Aš. Entering shortly after to Germany, it crosses the Länder of Saxony, Thuringe and Saxony-Anhalt.

It sprinkles the towns of Plauen, Greiz, Gera, Zeitz and Leipzig, and is thrown in the Saale with Halle.

It is in its water that the prince Joseph Antoine Poniatowski, Marshal of France, found death in 1813.
