Whistler (Colombia-British)
Whistler is a famous station of Ski located in the chain of the Coastal Mountains in Colombia-British, with the Canada.
The station is at two hours of road in the north of Vancouver by taking the road Sea to sky highway which skirts the peaceful coast .
Whistler will partly accommodate the Winter Olympics in 2010 and will be the host city of the paralympic Jeux of winter the same year.
Admitted to be the greatest skiable field in America (elected track number 1 by Ski Magazine), Whistler-Blackcomb has according to some the most beautiful slopes of the continent. They are, for certain amateurs of ski, higher than those of Switzerland, of Austria, of Italy or France, in particular thanks to the impressive quantities of snow that it falls each year there. This skiable field includes/understands two mountains: the Whistler Moutain (altitude: 2182 m) and the Blackcomb Moutain (altitude: 2440 m). In spite of the eternal duel to know which of both is the best, people agree more and more to say that Whistler is better for the ski and Blackcomb for the Snowboard. The skiable field is served by a system of 38 Ski lift of last technology (3 telpher carriers, 19 chair-lifts, 16 skis-lift). The culminating point of the field to 2240 m offers uneven of more than 1500 m to join the village.
In addition to the activities of winter sports, the station proposes many other activities in summer as in winter. It is indeed a place amusing and entertaining which proposes Randonnée as well, VTT (whose descent of the tracks in summer), Golf, Baignade, Traîneau with dogs, Motoneige and fishing, etc Several courses are made for the amateurs. Moreover the mountain a master key of summer for the true amateur of ski or snowboard offers which makes it possible to go to ski on the little of snow which remains on the glacier of Blackcomb. The village has several shops memories, stores, restaurant and bars. Intrawest, owner of this chain and several others in Canada made its fortune with the construction of luxurious roundwood residences which are worth million. Most expensive to sell at present is worth seven million.
This small municipality which quickly became the Eden of the American skiers also became one of the most animated province, even of Canada and North America. The cost of living is faithful so that is the Canadian West, i.e. excessively expensive, but the hotels should nevertheless be held in advance because they are very asked. Approximately 10.000 inhabitants live the area of which Ross Rebagliati, the first Olympic champion of snowboard with Nagano in 1998.
The station should build for 2008/2009 a telpher carrier connecting the two tops of the field, that of Whistler and that of Blackcomb. This increase would be then longest of the world.
