The West Brisbane Bulldogs , also called Wests Rugby , or simply Wests , are a club of Rugby to XV Australian, located in the district of Toowong at Brisbane. It evolves/moves in the first division of the championship of Queensland, from which it is holding it. Its players are likely to be selected for the Queensland Reds (Super 14) and for the Ballymore Tornadoes (Australian Rugby Championship). It is one of the best Australian clubs of these last years. It has a female section.

History

Founded in 1951, Wests integrates the first division of Queensland since 1955. In 1959, the colors blue and white are abandoned with the profit of shirts blue, white and red to distinguish them from those of the club of Brothers. In 1961, the club absorbs Toowong Rugby founded Club the previous year, and benefits from it to adopt its final colors, a yellow rafter on a green shirt

Wests with the honor to dispute the first match disputed on the stage of Ballymore Stadium|Ballymore]], seat of the federation of Queensland, at the time of its inauguration in 1967. 1969 sees the first player of Wests, Bob Wood selected for the Australia at the time of a round in South Africa. Several others will follow in the Eighties, in particular Roger Gould, Stan Pilecki and Tim Lane which takes part in the round of 1984 in the British Isles which sees Wallabies gaining all their matches. Troy Coker will be him world champion in 1991, just like Chris Latham and Michael Foley in 1999.

Wests gains its first two titles of Queensland in 1977 and 1985, before knowing an eclipse of more than 20 years and being again crowned.

  • Champion of Australia (1): 1986.

  • In 1986, Wests faced with Toulouse the Stade Toulousain in a match of prestige pompeusement called “championship of the world of the clubs”, gained by the French 11-6.

Famous players

About fifteen players of Wests carried the shirt of the national team, the Wallabies.
