Westinghouse Electric Corporation was a American Entreprise , founded by George Westinghouse in 1886 under the name of Westinghouse Electric Company .

It intervenes in the fields of the design and the manufacture of nuclear fuel assemblies, of the dedicated services to industry and the associated engineering, of the design and the realization of new power stations.

History

Innovations

George Westinghouse had previously based the Westinghouse Air Brake Company , charged with exploiting its Brevet S on the air-operated brakes, (whose original inventor is Rouennais Désiré Martin). Westinghouse Electric received the rights of exploitation of the first patent on the transmission of the alternative course, deposited by Nikola Tesla. This technology was used for the first time for public lighting with Great Barrington, Massachusetts. The company is at the origin of the transmission at long distance of the electric current, and the transmission with high voltage. The company was historically rival of General Electric.

Westinghouse in France

A company the Electrical material Schneider-Westinghouse, subsidiary of Schneider and Co is created in 1929, following the purchase of a license for the construction of electrical material with Westinghouse . This company amalgamates with the Forges and Ateliers of Electrical engineerings of Jeumont in 1964 to give rise to Jeumont-Schneider (currently Jeumont Industries, group Areva).

Westinghouse yielded in 1974 its license concerning the nuclear reactors to water pressurized to FRAMATOME (now AREVA NP). What made it possible FRAMATOME to build the current French nuclear capacity.

Westinghouse is now present in France with 300 collaborators out of 3 sites (with the Ulis in the Parc of activities of Courtaboeuf, with Marseilles and Manosque in Provence), under the name Westinghouse Service Nuclear . Its activity is the service with nuclear energy in the fields of maintenance, operation, the evolution and the dismantling of the power stations and the fuel assemblies.
