Western Francie

The Western Francie is the kingdom which receives the Carolingien Charles the Bald person (840 - 877) at the time of the Partage of Verdun, in 843. They are the old areas of Neustrie and Aquitaine, with the Western Austrasie and the north of the Burgundy, in other words, France of the four rivers. This part seems only Francie quickly, since at the 10th century, the Francie Orientale becomes Germanie then the Empire (Germanic). This political Francie disappears then from the vocabulary to become simply France or the kingdom of the Francs (term still used by the people of German language to indicate France: Frankreich ).

The Francie term, then France, indicates little by little the Minor France, i.e. about the current Île-de-France, stronghold of the king of the Francs, Carolingian then Capétien. It is only Philippe Auguste, at the 12th century, which it first is entitled King de France.
