West coast swing

The West Coast Swing is a dance with two of style swing, derived from the Lindy Hop, and contrary to this last, dances itself primarily in line (slot). It is often said that it is about the Rumba of the rock'n'roll . It is characterized by very elastic movements of the partners, whether it is individually or one compared to the other. Among the dances with two, it is one of most difficult, and leaves a great part to the improvisation. This dance is practiced on a vast range of styles of music: country, jazz, blues, RnB…

Origin

This dance appeared in the Forties in the balls of the West coast of the United States (origin of the name of the dance), in the rooms where Lindy-hop was practiced.

In France

In France, the west coast swing is especially practiced in Paris region and tends to develop in the south of France (annual festivals in Montpellier and the Grande Motte), but very little in the other areas.
