Annibal-Servais of Lairuelz is a reformer about Prémontré at the 16th century.
Biography
Born in 1560 with Soignies in the Hainaut, it pronounces its monastic vows in 1580 at Prémontrés of the abbey Saint-Paul de Verdun where his/her uncle is prior; then he attends the University of Pont-à-Mousson (founded by the Jésuites in 1574) and resides at the abbey close to Holy-Marie-with-Wood. In 1585, it gains Paris and continues its studies in Sorbonne, while residing at the prémontré college of Paris. Become Doctor of Divinity, it turns over to Saint-Paul de Verdun.
After a serious disease, it converts and starts to work with the restoration of the monastic discipline of its kind. Appointed general vicar about 1597, he visits the abbeys prémontrées in Germany, Austria and Belgium. Its reform touches initially a group of Lorraine abbeys which group in " The Community of the primitive rigueur". In 1600, it succeeds the Holy-Marie-Wood abbot Daniel Picard, and sends his young monks to follow the courses of the University of Pont-à-Mousson. From 1607, it works with the transfer of its abbey beside the University to Pont-à-Mousson. The Holy-Marie-Major construction of begins in 1609 and finishes in 1616. In 1631, it brings back its monks to Holy-Marie-with-Wood to flee the epidemic of plague which prevails in Pont-à-Mousson and it is there that it dies on October 18th 1631. Ten books which it published make the promotion of the strict observance; one raises there also the influence of the Society of Jesus.
