Wenzhou

Wenzhou (温州; Pinyin: Wēnzhōu) is a city of the province Zhejiang in China. One speaks a very particular form there about the wu.

It is a port city located at 400 km at the south of Shanghai in one of the most populated smallest provinces and of Chine : Zhejiang (44 million inhabitants, with 7 million for the area of Wenzhou including more than one million inhabitants in the city itself).

Culture and religions

The population of Wenzhou uses of WenzhouHua 温州话, ending of a southernmost group of speeches wu characterized by her transitional character marked with the Eastern idioms min. The population of Wenzhou is approximately to 21% Christian.

Economy

The community of Wenzhou is famous for its direction of the businesses and its dynamism in many trade as well in China as abroad, in particular in Europe. Their sectors of predilection cover the textile, light industry (toys and gadgets), and the real estate in continental China, in particular in Shanghai.

In the Seventies, Wenzhou underwent an important crisis of its textile sector, which involved the emigration of an important share of its population, and this, in particular in France where the Chinese community on-is represented by the " Wens".

The population of the town of Wenzhou enjoys most income the per capita in China, behind Shanghai and Beijing.

In 2005, total GDP was of 159,6 billion Yuan S, and the GDP per capita of: 21335 yuans.

The city-prefecture of Wenzhou exerts its jurisdiction on eleven subdivisions - three districts, two city-counties and six counties  :

  • the district of Ouhai - 瓯海区 Ōuhǎi Qū   ;
  • the town of Rui' year - 瑞安市 Ruì' ān Shì   ;
  • the town of Yueqing - 乐清市 Yuèqīng Shì   ;
  • the county of Yongjia - 永嘉县 Yǒngjiā Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Wencheng - 文成县 Wénchéng Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Pingyang - 平阳县 Píngyáng Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Taishun - 泰顺县 Tàishùn Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Dongtou - 洞头县 Dòngtóu Xiàn   ;
  • the county of Cangnan - 苍南县 Cāngnán Xiàn .
