Wenge

The Wenge (delivery /w ɛŋɛ/) or the Awong ( Millettia Laurentii ) is a tree with black Bois of the tropical and equatorial areas of Africa (in particular with the Cameroun, in Congo-Kinshasa, with the Gabon, in Tanzania and with the Mozambique), very dark and dense. Being a very durable wood, it is used in the production of tablettery, brush-factory, parquet floor, sculpture and fine cabinet work.

Wenge is also called: purple wood of Africa, purple wood of Congo, laburnum, dikela, Mibotu, Bokonge, Mokange, Panga Panga, Anong, Awong, silk, gondou, Jambiré, Kiboto.

Botanical name: Millettia Laurentii (De Wild)/Millettia Stuhlmanni (Taub)

This wood which pushes in the forests of Mozambique and the basin of Congo, presents a coarse weaving, and a very cross irregular fiber often.
