Well of Sarlacc

The well of Sarlacc , also named Large Pit of Carkoon according to the original version, is a fictitious place of the Star Wars located on planet of Tatooine.

The Sarlacc is a giant creature Ver miforme living in sands of Tatooine. The only visible part is a gigantic mouth in the shape of crater, army of a horn nozzle and tentacles which absorb all that passes to their range. The creatures which fall inside are slowly digested in atrocious sufferings.

Jabba Hutt which wants to avenge the domestic death of sound rancor led Luke Skywalker and Han Solo to the well for Sarlacc in order to precipitate them there.

Biological description

One does not know large thing of this species which one finds a specimen on Tatooine. Is it animal, vegetable or even mineral? Is it only endowed with reason? The only thing which one is sure, it is that its metabolism enables him to keep its alive preys and to digest them during several centuries. He is regarded as " all puissant" by Jabba Hutt and its court. Only one human known survived after swallowbeing swallowed by Sarlacc: the bargain hunter Boba Fett, though it does not seem eager to describe the details of his experiment.

Inspiration

The principal inspiration is the worm of sands named Shai-Hulud of the cycle of Dune writes by Frank Herbert but also the spiders of the family Segestriidae.
