Welkenraedt
Welkenraedt (in Francique ripuaire Wälekete , in German Welkenrath ) is a common French-speaking to facilities of Belgium located in Walloon region in the Province of Liege.
It belongs to the administrative Arrondissement of Verviers and of the electoral and legal canton of Limbourg.
The Commune of Welkenraedt gathers since January 1st, 1977 Welkenraedt and Henri-Vault.
It comprises 9.164 inhabitants (2005) and extends on a surface from 2.446 Hectare S. Its altitude varies between 230 and 354 Mètre S. It is twinned with two other communes: Epfig and Nove.

History
The FIT left the round of applause and the Parish of Baelen; set up in common in 1796 - 1797 per detachment of Baelen; amputee of Herbesthal, yielded to the Prussia of 1816 (treated Limits) with 1919 (Treated of Versailles), then attached to Lontzen; annexed with the Third Reich of 1940 with 1944; there remained there nothing any more but 10,5% the German-speaking ones in 1947; City and Station border of 1816 with 1919, developed starting from the construction of the line of Railroad Liege - Cologne in 1843.
Linguistic statute
It is a common to special statute for the minority language teaching (German and Dutch: Article 3.4° of the law of July 30th, 1963), and potentially (required of a request of the town council, a royal decree and still of a law) with special statute for the use of the administrative matter languages (Article 16 of the laws of July 18th, 1966).
