Weh
Weh is an island located at the northern point of the island Indonesia of Sumatra. It is thus the most Western part of the archipelago. Administratively, it belongs to the province of Aceh.
The island draws up itself in the Mer of Andaman, with the limit between the great depths of the Indian Ocean with the west and not very deep water of the Détroit of Malacca in the east. Of volcanic nature, it belongs to the same chain of islands as the Andaman and the Nicobar in north. One of attractions of Weh is the beauty of its landscapes, with its undulating ground, its caves, its beautiful beaches and its traditional villages. Weh is surrounded by smaller islands, such as Klah, Rondo, Rubiah and Seulako. The unit covers a surface of 154 km ². Rubiah is most known of these small islands. Of a surface of 17 hectares, the island was at the time colonial the seat of a Psychiatric hospital and a place of forty for the Moslem pilgrims Mecque. Today, Rubiah is famous for its beautiful coral reefs.
Tourism
Weh is a place appreciated for the diving. A ferry twice a day connects the island to Banda Aceh, capital of the province.
