Weepers Circus

Weepers Circus is a founded French rock group in 1988.

The founding members of Weepers Circus - Franck George, Eric Kaija Warlike, Alexandre George and Denis Leonhardt - meet in a college of Strasbourg (France) in 1988 and found there the “circus of people who cry”. Why the name is in English? Because its members are shifted a little compared to their time: they listen to the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin! However in their enthusiasm post-teenager, it was necessary well to be identified… and thus to anglicize their name! With the beginning of the year eighty ten, other musicians will join the group but will not remain there.

High-school pupils, they become students and propose conceptual spectacles - the Requiem (1992) and the Fables (1994) - in which all arts are solicited: music of course, but also the theater, dance and painting.

In 1995 and 1996, the formation makes its first experiments discographics: thus are published simple - Weepers Circus (1995) - and two collective discs. Until 1997 the group does not leave Alsace, but starting from the first album - the insane one and the balance (1997) - he ventures in the grounds of France of the interior. And there… the adventure accelerates with the publication of second simple - I am noble (1998) - then of a second album - the scarecrow (1999) - which give the opportunity to Weepers Circus to intensify the French rounds. These discs are very influenced by the Eastern European countries, the medieval tradition manouche, Yiddish and.

For the new millenium, the data change: the group signs in license at Universal and publishes its third album - shade and the young lady (2000) - under this sign. The same year, the group meets Caroline Loeb which from now on will supervise the settings in scene of Circus: it is it in particular which will propose with the group to get dressed in clothing Jean-Paul Gaultier. This album marks also a turning because it clearly expresses the influences of a Brel, of a Brassens or a Vian. It is also the occasion of a duet with the group Bratsch in the title the circus of people which cries and which will be the subject of a video clip (realized by Nicolas Bonnefous) diffused on M6.

In 2001, a fifth member - Goulec - is added to the adventure by introducing the battery there: this addition marks the increasing influence of the rock'n'roll led zeppelinien in the future orientations of the musicians. The same year, Weepers Circus takes part in the collective homage devoted to Brassens - Birds of passage (2001) - and meets on this occasion the arranger Joseph Racaille: this collaboration is decisive in the way in which the group conceives the future orchestrations.

In 2002, the group meets Serge Bégout (Pig-headeds) and Olivia Ruiz: they take part both in the fourth album - Faites to enter (2003) - and will often join Weepers on the French scenes. This album takes a turning plus rock'n'roll while preserving a song spirit. The same year, the group takes part in the album of Olivia - I do not like the love (2003) - by writing to him and interpreting the title Petite fable .

In 2004, Boris Plateau carries out a video clip of animation on an old title of the group - the buffoon and the controversy (1998) - and which will be preceded in many festivals. The same year, the group is invited on the album of the Ogres of Barback - Waste ground - and starts the preparation of the fifth album published on October 10th, 2005: the monstrous parade . Musicalement, a certain radicality rock'n'roll associated with full orchestrations cords and winds is fully assumed. Round 2005/2006 is completed in September 2006: these two years are also those of audio-visual creations in which the group composes the codes. In June 2006, Christian Houllé creates a video clip around the title January.

In March 2007 is published a Tribute to Polnareff (at the sides of Calvin Russell and Nick Cave) in which the group takes again Lettre in France in duet with China Moses (the girl of Dee Dee Bridgewater). The same month, the group intervenes in school around a presentation philosophical and artistic (painting, cinema and music) on the topic of “Which is the monsters? ”.

In 2007 always, the group signs at XIII (a) Records/Sony-BMG and in the autumn of the same year, it publishes its sixth album, heading All is not so black , just as it starts its new round (as from October 2007 September). Are invited in this new opus: Olivia Ruiz (for the fifth collaboration), the actress Irene Jacob and Mathias Malzieu (of the group Dionysos).
