Webtop

The term webtop comes from a contraction of the terms Web and desktop and indicates an office computerized in accessible line via a navigator Internet. According to Tim O' Reilly, Netscape would be with the orgine of this concept buried with death of the company. This one reappears with the wave known as " Web 2.0 " : many applications are related to the Web with an aim of supplanting their traditional equivalents.

The enrichment of the interfaces (via technologies AJAX, for example) indeed then makes it possible to plan to migrate or reconcevoir applications of office automation without changing the practices of the users: the actions slip-to move, the right click, the systems of automatic completion are implemented in the webmails (Gmail in particular was the precursor of the field), the sites of information then in new online services.

Among these new services, one finds the components of the usual office automation transposed on the Web : Word processing, Spreadsheet, editor of diagrams or presentation, instant messaging, etc
