French organization of meteorology, Weather-France is a public corporation administrative, in charge of the forecast and study with the weather phenomena. It is also in charge of the emission of the weather alert .

Operation

It should be noted that official name of establishment contains well hyphen and accents in its statutes, even if the accents are removed majority of the documents published by Weather-France (as well as its Internet site officel and of its logo), which recorded the trade marks Weather-France ™ and Meteo France ™ (as well as the same names entirely in capital letters), in order to facilitate the referencing of its publications under a single name (generally written without hyphen simply WEATHER FRANCE ).

Its budget of 283,6 million euros (2005) is fed by the State French (55%), the royalties aeronautical (26,5%) and the sale of services (18,5%). Weather-France is directed by Pierre-Etienne Bisch. The executive vice president is Alain Ratier.

This establishment, created by, is placed under the supervision of the Ministère of Ecology, the Development and Installation durable (MEDAD).

Its seat is located at 1 quai Branly, with Paris ( VII|7 E district), but most of its services (1200 paid on a total staff complement of 3700) was decentralized with Toulouse since 1982.

In addition to its operations in Metropolitan France, the establishment provides measurements, forecasts and bulletins of alarms for the departments and communities of overseas. It thus controls four divisions based in Guadeloupe (it even subdivided for the Martinique and the Guyana), in New Caledonia, French Polynésie and with the Réunion.

Weather-France is signatory of the Pacte SME.

International responsibilities and co-operation

With the international plan, Weather-France is member of the World Meteorological Organization (OMM), specialized institution of UNO. Weather-France represents also France auprès:
  • of the European Center of weather forecasting in the medium term (CEPMMT);
  • of EUMETSAT, European organization of satellite S, known meterologic observation by for its satellites Météosat
  • of EUMETNET, organism in charge of the co-operation between the national weather services in all the other fields (observation in situ , formation, protection of the radio frequencies, etc)

Certain divisions in overseas have important responsibilities with the international plan:

  • the subdivision of Guyana based with the airport of Cayenne - Rochambeau maintains offices and operations at the Guianese Space center for ESA and CNES) with Kourou in order to assist the launching campaigns of the European program of the Fusée ARIANE.
  • the division of the Réunion based with Saint-Denis is indicated by the World Meteorological Organization as the regional weather Center specialized (CMRS) for the supply of the forecasts, the monitoring and the bulletins of alarm on the tropical Cyclone S in the South-western area of the Indian Ocean.
  • the division of French Polynesia based with PAPEETE, although not indicated like the official CMRS for the cyclones of the Pacific Ocean Southern, was elected by the OMM to provide the forecasts and alarms in the islands Pitcairn (British) close.
