History

The wearing of London was the central element of the economy of the British capital since the Anglo-Saxon . At the 18th century and the 19th century, the wearing of London was most active in the world and extended along the Thames on approximately 18 km and counted approximately 1  500 cranes charging and discharging 60  000 Ship S per annum. During the Second world war and the episode of the Blitz, the port was a privileged target of the bombardments of the Luftwaffe.

Since the appearance of ships of big size and Container S and Container ships, the importance of the port decreased throughout second half of the 20th century. Thanks to Tilbury and with its deep water port, the wearing of London remains one of the three larger ports of the United Kingdom for the number of containers discharged, after Southampton and Felixtowe.

Activity

Currently, the port treats fifty million tons of goods and accommodates 12  500 ships, which accounts for approximately 10% of the ships accommodated in the United Kingdom and generates 30  635 direct uses, approximately 5  000 indirect and 3,5 billion books in the saving in the United Kingdom.

Movement of the goods in 2001:

The majority of the unutilised grounds of the docks of London are in the process of refitting in order to there build dwellings as well as a second financial heart. Twenty-nine quays were left with the port activities.
