Weak coupling

The weak coupling (also called light coupling or loose coupling ) indicates a relation of coupling in which each one of the entity is slightly committed with respect to the other.

General idea

The general idea of the weak coupling consists in establishing a Protocole of exchange and carrying out less assumptions (or imposing less constraints) possible between the pars.

The advantages are that

  • the pars interact within a definite framework
  • the pars keep a certain autonomy
  • one can more easily replace a par by another

The structures functioning on weak coupling are thus more flexible and open.

A traditional metaphor is that of the Electrical outlet which is a standard for the connection of Appareil S electric. That is translated into data processing by the concept of Plugin.
