The Waziristan is a mountainous region of the North-East of the Pakistan, frontier of the Afghanistan, covering a surface of 11.585 km ². It is populated by Pashtoune S strictly applying the Charia, according to the decisions of the Loya Jirga, which implies a strict containment of the women in accordance with the customs and tribal habits. Helped by the western powers, the Pakistani army is devoted to it since 2004 to a war entering within the framework of the Guerre against terrorism defined by G.W. Bush, against tribal chiefs lodging of the dissidents of other areas of Pakistan, the supposed people of affiliation to Al-Qaida and of the Taliban S risen following their ousting with the end of the year 2001. The area would be used also basic back for the Afghan insurrectionists.

An agreement had been signed in 2005-2006 between the Pakistani government of Pervez Musharraf and the chiefs of local tribes. The attack against the Red Mosquée of Islamabad in July 2007 however started again the conflict opposing the islamist army and groups.

In the years 1980, the tribal zone had been presented by the Western media televised like a zone of not-right of the capacity of the Pakistani, difficult State of access and moved back in the mountains, bases supply for the Talibans at the time of their catch of Kabul following communist collapse and the end of the Guerre Afghanistan. The same media showed in particular artisanal factories of Kalashnikov.

Waziristan is divided into two “agencies”, Waziristan of north and Waziristan of the south, whose populations were respectively estimated (in 1998) at 361.246 and 429.841 inhabitants. The capital of the district of north east Miran Shah or Miramshah, or Mirumshah (in local dialect). That of the south east Wana.
