Waterland is a common in the province of the septentrional Holland. It is located at the north of the town of Amsterdam on the edge of the IJsselmeer.

The commune comprises the following cities and villages: Broek in Waterland, Ilpendam, Katwoude, Marken, Monnickendam, Overleek, Uitdam, Water gang, Zuiderwoude.

The commune of Waterland was created by fusion into 1991 of Monnickendam, Uitdam and Marken. The commune is member of the community of commune Stadsregio Amsterdam gathering the communes around Amsterdam.
