Waterchiller

A waterchiller is a system of cooling of Computer material joining together Watercooling and Phase-changes cooling.

Goal

A system of Phase-changes cooling makes it possible with difficulty to cool several component of a Ordinateur, evaporator S in parallel being rather constraining and requiring precise calculations, but it makes it possible to reach easily negative Température S. A system of Watercooling easily makes it possible to kill the majority of the component of a Ordinateur in only one circuit, but the Température S obtained are not as low by far as with a cooling Phase-changes. A waterchiller, by joining together these two systems, makes it possible to remove the two principal defects of each system, one obtains a system making it possible to cool several component thanks to only one circuit, while having negative Température S. The problem of a Phase-changes cooling which persists here is that of the Condensation, which makes dangerous the cooling of the food or the hard drives.

Operation

A waterchiller consists in making soak the evaporator of a system of Phase-changes cooling in the reserve of a system of Watercooling. The cooled liquid of the Watercooling circulates then in all the circuit of this last, often cooling CPU, GPU and the Northbridge at the same time. The tank thus holds the exchanging role of thermal between the Fluide of the Phase-changes cooling and the Liquide of the Watercooling.

The liquid of the Watercooling reaching negative Temperature S easily, until for example -30 or -40 °C according to the system of Phase-changes cooling, the use of pure Eau is impossible, this one would freeze in the pipes. A mixture of Water and another Liquide which freezes less easily is thus carried out, for example with Méthanol, Acétone, a compound of glycol or another Liquide of cooling. By modifying the ratio Water/Methanol (for example), one can vary the temperature to which the liquid will solidify.
