The Wat Benchama Bophit is most recent of the large Buddhist temples of Bangkok.
This wat was built in 1899 on the initiative of the king Rama V on the site of an old sanctuary. The king decided this construction in order to compensate for the destruction of two old temples required by the extension of the Dusit royal palace.
The principal building (club-footed) is built on a cruciform level and uses a white marble of Carrare what explains its tourist denomination of Temple of marble . The principal statue of club-footed is a counterpart life size of famous the Pha Bouddha Chinaraj whose original is venerated with Phitsanulok, in the base of the statue are enchased ashes of the king Rama V.
The wat also comprises splendid gardens and a cloister whose galleries shelter a collection of 53 remarkable statues of Buddha of Thailand which illustrate the various styles and attitudes. Thirty-three statues are originals, the others are copies, other Buddhas foreign supplement this collection.
