Warhammer Fantasy Battle

Warhammer Battle is a strategy game with figurines to be painted and collect published by Games Workshop. The first edition goes back to 1983.

The developed imaginary world (see the article Warhammer ) was then useful for the Roleplay Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay .

The player chooses people among those existing and constitutes an army with the figurines of his people. The players clash at the time of combat on simple tables or even of the complete decorations worthy of professional maquettism.

Presentation of the play by the editor

Warhammer is the play of the fantastic battles. Each part opposes usually two adversaries. You can deliver skirmishes to small scales, implying from 20 to 30 figurines on each side, or of greater battles mobilizing of the hundreds of figurines in each camp the book of rules of Warhammer describes in detail displacements and the combat of each figurine. Each player chooses an army and collects it, each one of them is described in detail by a Book of Army. An immense range of metal Citadel figurines or plastic is also available for each existing race.

Goal of the play (in Warhammer Fantasy Battle)

Warhammer is played first of all with figurines. Before being able to play, each player must be himself made up an army of a particular race and have the book of the rules advanced for this army. The goal of the player is to gain the part while filling of the fixed conditions. Generally, the single objective is to destroy as much as possible the opposing army while minimizing its losses; this comparison is done by calculating the points of victory, acquired by:

  • destruction of the unfavourable units (each figurine or unit costs a certain number of points, acquired by the adversary if it is destroyed with half and completely);
  • died of the general;
  • captures banners or quarters of tables.
One calculates the difference in points of victory between the two players, and a table indicates if it is about a tie, of a minor victory, a total victory or a massacre.

It is also possible, apart from the parts known as " standards" , to create scenarios and campaigns, or to use other objectives like, for example, to capture a zone of the battle field or to simulate an opening while making leave the maximum of its units by the unfavourable edge surface of play.

Alternate shops and Others Information

The development of warhammer Battle (and of in general all the sets of figurines…) such as it was involved the creation of shops, sites, forums in order to offer an alternative to the prices increasing unceasingly and considered raised by the " truths " hobbystes & impassioned… For example: in the Eighties, each regiment was composed of different figurines, very out of metal and 50 80% have less expensive than today (metal even became rather rare and it is reserved for the troops known as " of élite" , with in particular an increasingly massive use of the plastic without for all this the prices drop - example: plastic giants left in 2006 pennies box… -).

The sites are very interesting because they reveal an organized micro-economics all around these plays, with creation of company of sale of new figurines, copying Games Workshop themselves and going still further (like Artgamer…) or of the sites of sale and exchange of figurines of occasion between private individuals (as My Figs To be sold or Dragon Occasion); but the alternative sale and the purchase remain especially present on the forums (see the external bonds, that of Warhammer - Forum especially, that of Warmania then etc) and on Ebay.
