Wardrecques

Wardrecques is a common French, located in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Geography and environment

The commune is bordered in the North-East by the Canal of Noeufossé, or channel of the Field , which explains the old installation of a Papeterie (“ Paper mill-cardboard factory of Gondardennes ”) and in the common neighbor of a Tuilerie.

The grounds argilo-limestones are there rich, which encouraged agriculture, intensive since the nineteenth century.

The relief, dish in the village rises and soft inclined gradually towards south-west where culminates the Plate of Helfaut, which still shelters invaluable natural environments, relics of acid moors and zone wet, having justified its classification in Zone Natura 2000, and the creation of four voluntary natural reserves (RNV) (compensatory measures with the passage of a Route; the new way of the valley of Aa known as VNVA). These reserves became in 2007 a regional Natural reserve, managed by a mixed trade-union (Eden 62).

The place known as of the bridge crossing the channel is named “Bridge of Asquin” , or “bridge Asquin” .
Ce bridge materializes at the same time the Frontière between the departments of North and the Pas-de-Calais and between three communes; Wardrecques, Racquinghem and Renescure.

The common one lost its Gare, but a railway skirts the channel to serve the factories. Its accesses and those of the channel still constitute to some extent one of the biological last Corridors of the commune.

Environment

The digging of the channel marked the local landscape and contributed to strongly artificialiser the network Hydraulique of under area. It accommodates the risings of the field and the intermediate territories, as well as many agricultural drainages. It forced a reorganization of the road infrastructures, railway and industrial. So the common one lost its Naturalité much, although in the vicinity, on the plates (Plate of Helfaut) and on the Mount (Mount of winter on the common neighbor) of the Paysage S of quality and a remarkable Biodiversité survived. In addition, this channel being connected to the channeled Aa and " river , it nevertheless preserved a biological vocation of Corridor a long time for the Anguille S and some small migrating ( épinoche ).
Via this channel, the commune is connected to two areas catchment; that of Aa and that of the Lily (river). it is thus concerned with two WISE.

The water quality of the channel was very bad during the years 1950-1990, but improved for certain parameter. For the Agency of water, it remains nevertheless poor, in particular because of sediments polluted because of the industrialization upstream of the commune of the field and by the erosive contributions and agricultural scrubbings of inputs (manure, pesticides).

In years 1960-1970 the effluents of the paper mill and many dwellings strongly polluted the small river which skirt the channel and the railway, and the factories coal-fired then with fuel strongly polluted the atmosphere. The paper mill was the first in the area to be obtained a powerful purification plant, and to be equipped with a gas turbine.

History

The commune, formerly rich in Wetlands and grounds of quality probably knew a prehistoric occupation and early agricultural activities.

During the warming and of the last invasion marinades from which the peak dates approximately from year 800, it was not located very far from the sea (Saint-Omer was a port).

It is then quoted for the first time in 1096 under the name of Werdric .

It underwent in 1543 the battles which proceeded in the areas of Thérouanne and Saint-Omer.

Wardrecques was occupied by the German army at the time of the two World wars (relatively strategic zone because of the presence of the channel, the railway, industries and an important road axis of which one leading to the Plateau of Helfaut on which the Nazis built the Coupole of Helfaut (with Wizernes).
