Warcraft II (complete name: Warcraft II: Tides off Darkness ) is a Video game of strategy in real-time left on PC in 1996. It belongs to the series Warcraft.

The player, in mode “countryside” (mode a scenarized player), directs the human units or orc S for the battles but also for the management of his troops and the raw material extraction (wood, gold and oil). The basic units of Warcraft II are for human the peasants, the infantrymen and the elves; and for the orcs let us péons them, the grunts and the launchers of axe. The units and the buildings are practically equivalent between orcs and human, they vary for the units advanced and their fates.

The largest innovation of Warcraft II compared to its predecessor comes from his graphics in SVGA, very impressive at the time of the exit of the play, as well as care taken to the general realization (voice, musics, animations…), and the possibility of playing as multijoueurs on Internet or LAN.

Extension

The play knew an extension, named Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal , left in 1996. October 1st, 1999 concerned video, a special version left under the name of Warcraft  II Battle.net Edition , this one incorporated the extension Beyond the Dark Portal , gave access to the play via the platform Battle.net of Blizzard, and was adapted to function under Windows 95 (and successors) whereas the previous model functioned under DOS.

A continuation, Warcraft III: Reign off Chaos left in 2002.

Lastly, there is also a free version, entitled Stratagus .

The play left under the name Warcraft II: The Dark Saga on Playstation and Saturn in August 1997 concerned video.
