Warcisław II of Gdańsk
Warcislaw II of Gdansk (in Polish Warcisław II Gdański , in German Wartislaw II. ) was born towards 1237 and died the May 9th 1271. It is duke of Gdańsk of 1266 with 1270.
Warcislaw is the son of Świętopełk II of Poméranie and the younger brother of Mestwin II of Poméranie. After the death of Świętopełk the January 11th 1266, it obtains the duchy of Gdańsk which was born from the parcelling out of the Eastern Poméranie on which his/her father controlled. This division not being appropriate for Mestwin II which obtained only the small duchy of Świecie, this one invades the duchy of Gdańsk in 1270. Warcisław flees and takes refuge at the duke Siemomysl d' Inowrocław who shelters it in the Fortified town frontier of Wyszogród.
Warcislaw II of Gdansk is deceased the May 9th 1271 whereas it was on the point of recovering its duchy by the force. It is possible that it was assassinated on the order of his older brother. Warcislaw II of Gdansk is buried in the church of the Franciscains of Inowrocław.
