Warcisław III of Poméranie

Warcisław III of Poméranie (in Polish Warcisław III Pomorski , in German Wartislaw III. von Pommern ) was born towards 1210 and is deceased the May 17th 1264. It is Co duke of Poméranie Western.

Warcisław is the son of Casimir II of Poméranie. When his/her father dies in 1219, Warcisław is too young to reign. His/her mother, a Danish princess , undoubtedly exerted the Régence until in 1226. At that time, Poméranie Western is a Fief Danish. The imprisonment of the king Valdemar II of Denmark in 1223 and the defeat of the Denmark at the time of the battles of Bornhöved in 1227 ruin forever the Danish hopes of domination of the Baltique.

Warcisław shares the capacity with his/her cousin Barnim I {{er}} the Good. Whereas Warcisław resides at Demmin, Barnim lives on the island of Usedom before transferring its seat to Szczecin in 1235. Warcisław tries to tie good relationships with the dukes of Grande Poland.

In 1234, Warcisław pushes back a Danish attempt at Western reconquest of Poméranie. However, two years later, the Brandebourg seizes the west of the duchy of Warcisław. This one is constrained to recognize the Suzerain be of the Margrave of Brandebourg.

Towards 1258, Warcisław, which carried the title of duke of the Cachoubes ( dux Cassucorum ), supported by Boleslas the Piles, invades the Eastern Poméranie. It is pushed back by Świętopełk II. During its reign, many German colonists are installed on his territory. Warcisław grants the Droit of Lübeck to Greifswald (1250), with Demmin (towards 1250), with Stavenhagen (1252), with Kołobrzeg (1255) and with Gryfice (1262).

When Warcisław III dies in 1264, Barnim the Good is freed from Brandebourg and reunifies Poméranie Western under its authority.

Warcisław married Sophie which one does not know the origin. The couple did not have of child.
