War of the seven chiefs

In the Greek Mythology, the war of the seven chiefs is a military forwarding assembled against Thèbes a generation before the Trojan War. It intervenes in the context of the succession of Oedipus and the exile of Polynice (wire of Oedipus) by her brother Étéocle, who seized the throne of the city.

Myth

Preliminaries

A mention of Iliade (IV, 376-381) reports that Polynice and Tydée go together to Mycènes “to gather the people and to make a forwarding against the holy walls of”; but bad predict Zeus ruin this initiative.

It is thus with Argos that Polynice will request the assistance of the king Adraste, who raises an army to which many champions unite.

A champion argien is posted in front of each door of Thèbes, and all find death in a final attack where Étéocle and Polynice themselves between-commit suicide.

Undoubtedly very present in the antiquated Oral tradition , this war is iliade mentioned in particular in , the Cycle thébain and Work and the Days (v.  161-163). In fact however the traditional sources about it give the most indications.
