War of the Young ladies

The war of the Young ladies is a rebellion having taken place in Ariège of 1829 with 1832 (less intense until in 1872).

It is due to the vote on May 27th 1827 of a new regulation of the forest Code which will be actually applied as from 1829. This new code imposes " a new regulation of the use of the Forest S, in particular concerning the collecting of the Wood, cuts and especially the Pasture from now on put in défens (prohibited), right of marronnage, and rights of Hunting, fishing and Gathering ".

The war of the Young ladies owes her name with the fact that the peasants appeared disguised as women with long white blouses or sheepskins, scarves or wigs, the face blackened or hidden to primarily attack the night, the great landowners, the foresters and gendarmes, the ironmasters and the coalmen.

This rebellion was in the beginning as of 1830 of a play " the Drama of the Young ladies " who was played Théâtre of the Varieties.
