War of Saint-Sabas
The war of Saint-Sabas , opposing the Génois, supported by Philippe de Monfort, lord of Tyr, and the order of the Hospital , with the Venetian S, supported by the count of Jaffa and the order of Templiers; is one of the episodes of the conflicts between the Italian commercial towns in the Eastern Mediterranean.
It makes following expulsion the Venetian ones of Tyr in 1256, which precipitates the war of Saint-Sabas. Philippe supplied the génois Acre in food, and supported the armed intervention with Embarrassment to Acre in 1258. Philippe was held with one mile of Acre, with the locality " Vignie New " with " lxxx. homes has chevau and .ccc unpleasant archers of its ground ". Its presence did not prevent Génois from being " desconfis "; and the survivors regained Tyr.
The war continued. The génois approached Michel Paléologue, emperor of Nicée ( remains Byzantine empire). Financed by this last, they will send a fleet of 50 ships to fight the Venetian ones following the treated of Nymphée, in 1261, against a quasi-total exemption from customs duties on the grounds from the empire reconquered or to conquer. But, the Venetian ones still tried to besiege Tyr in 1264, qu ' they gave up on arrival of the helps. An final agreement concluded in 1270 put an end to the competition between Vénitiens and Génois.
