War lélantine

The Guerre lélantine was a long war between the cities of Érétrie and Chalcis in Greece. It was held on a date which we do not know with precision, rare contradictory, unquestionable sources being speaking about the end of VIIIe century, others privileging first half of VIIe century. We do not know either with precision the winner of this confrontation. Chalcis seems victorious, but the sources diverge. What on the other hand is certain, it is that this war involved the two cities towards the decline. It is in any case a sufficiently important event so that Thucydide makes of it mention in its Histoire of the Peloponnesian War. He tells us the war between Chalcis and Érétrie was that during which the majority of the other cities of Greece were divided and allied with a camp or the other. - Thucydide (I 15,3)
