Wannsee

Wannsee is a district of Berlin in Germany, isolated on an island between three lakes, the large one and the small lake Wannsee, the lake Griebnitz and the channel of Griebnitz.

The big lake Wannsee ( Großer Wannsee ) is a place of very wide rest, walk and bathe and whose building of the baths builds in the years 1920 - 1930 in the fields of the architect Richard Ermisch is classified historic building.

A long time before the construction of the Berlin Wall, they is there that the Berliners were going already to spend their afternoon sunny (it was very known for its naturist zone ) and when West Berlin was wedged in GDR, it became one of the rare entertaining zones.

Moreover, this lake is used as crossing point for the river navigation because it connects Berlin to Potsdam, Werder and Tegel by the river Havel and the channel of Griebnitz.

It is at the edge of the small lake Wannsee that the writer Heinrich von Kleist committed suicide of a ball of gun after having killed (with its request) Henriette Vogel in November 1811.

The name remained sadly celebrates for the Conférence of Wannsee which was held there concerning the extermination of the Jews of Europe.
